Lesson 12 Discussion Question » Steps to Sourcing Green » 7/17/2020 4:34 pm |
Cynthia, I would also create a measure to be sure that the strategy is being followed. I tend to want to include monitoring in every list I make though!
Lesson 7 Discussion Question » Bullwhip Effect » 6/13/2020 12:04 pm |
Angela, agreed - vendor managed inventory is a consideration for some of the items. We have moved some inventory (very little to date) to vending machines and have one site with an on site store managed by the supplier. But yes, it may be a great option for more items.
Lesson 7 Discussion Question » Bullwhip Effect » 6/12/2020 10:02 am |
Cynthia, I agree with the comment regarding building better relationships with customers. I have been seeing benefit in my current role from the situations where there are strong relationships and have noted this as a personal goal for 2020 to better more relationships.
Lesson 7 Discussion Question » Bullwhip Effect » 6/06/2020 4:29 pm |
Consider and discuss an area in your supply chain that could be subject to the bullwhip effect. Give an example of how this can happen and provide some ideas on how to mitigate the effect.Special projects cause our consumer (or end user) to require a much higher quantity of inventory items which can deplete inventory making the item unavailable for the rest of the site. Better planning would mitigate this effect. The planning department should let the Procurement department know ahead of time or place a special order rather than depleting inventory. Should a higher minimum quantity be held in inventory the planner can notify the procurement department to make this change.Another example would be a shortage that causes panic “hoarding”. When antibacterial wipes were on back order a year ago, the last of the inventory stock was signed out in much higher quantities that usual and stockpiled by our underground workers. We were waiting on back orders and trying to order higher quantities which the supplier could not keep up with. The way that this was mitigated was when the next shipment arrived, they were not able to be signed out without supervisor approval to ensure that excess were not signed out and stockpiled and that everyone who needed got some.
Lesson 2 Discussion Question » Describe how supply chain mapping might benefit your organization. » 5/04/2020 9:02 pm |
@Cynthia
I agree with the stated benefits of Supply Chain Mapping to a manufacturer and supplier especially when serving an industry where timing can be very important. Having to depend on other companies can easily cause delays in the final product, avoiding disruptions is key. I would think that the mapping of transportation links could have potential for better knowledge of transportation options should a disruption occur there could be time savings depending on transportation relationships.
Lesson 2 Discussion Question » What do you understand your organization’s core competencies to be? » 5/04/2020 8:38 pm |
@nnzewi my organization does sound similar to your previous workplace.
Thank you for you comment about Process Mapping, I agree with your comment. There are many process steps.
Lesson 2 Discussion Question » What do you understand your organization’s core competencies to be? » 4/26/2020 8:28 pm |
I believe a core competency of my organization is the size of the organization and it's diversification which allows us to leverage our size in different ways to work at lowering operating costs. We have the ability to maintain lower cost by utilizing our buying power by bulk purchasing to cover all sites rather than each purchasing on their own. We are a diverse organization allowing us to be involved in multiple markets. We also have the ability to source from other sites for urgent items that have unacceptable lead times.
